Why I Make Cakes…

Mini Cooper Kake

Over the last year I have had many people ask why I make these cakes. I don’t have a simple answer for them. What started out as a cub scout activity with my dad and then with my own son has now bloomed in to a great artistic outlet for me. I’ve pretty much grown up as an artist in one way or another. My father was always encouraging me to create. An artist himself, he has always been there to help me find my creative way. It has taken me a while making these cakes to figure out that this isn’t a great way to get rich. Not with money anyway… What I have figured out is that I have found my artistic voice.

With out a doubt I’m always wanting to make our clients happy, but the real challenge is satisfying myself. With every cake I find out something new about building these behemoths and myself. I can’t lie and say it’s always fun. At times it’s been rather stressful. Even more so for my family. Those who know me know I can be very demanding when it’s crunch time. And no matter how good we plan, there are times when I wonder if we’re going to make it. We always do. This is thanks to my family who when the clock is running never give up on me. The payoff is not when you get paid, it’s when you pull a 50 pound cake out of the car and the client is in disbelief that you made it out of cake. That look is worth millions. So somewhere in that, is why.
